Human rights... for everyone?? (On Abortion)

Psalm 139:13-16

New International Version (NIV)

 ¹³ For you created my inmost being;
   you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

¹⁵ My frame was not hidden from you

Yesterday was the anniversary of the historic case that decided the death of millions of children called "Roe v. Wade."  If you aren't familiar, Roe v. Wade essentially made abortion legal in the United States.

In my opinion... this could be considered one of the most despicable and grotesque things that we have allowed to happen in our country (right up there with slavery... and we had to fight a war to end that).

While this won't be a long post... I simply wanted to mark the date (again) this year and remind everyone of the sheer numbers of babies being murdered/killed for convenience.  According to the CDC report, in 2007, a total of 827,609 abortions were reported.

That, my friends, is sad...

Today in Washington, D.C., millions of individuals are marching to Capital Hill and the Supreme Court (again) in protest of this killing.  Unfortunately, I scanned the major news networks' websites looking for any mention of the march.  What did I find?  Nothing.

Again... Sad...

For 39 years, we've allowed the slaughter of unborn babies. 

Sad...

Baby Bottle Boomerang

We have a sweet and simple fundraiser going on right now at North Terrace that I'm pretty excited about. It's called "Baby Bottle Boomerang."

It's a fundraiser to support the local pro-life crisis pregnancy center in Zanesville and it's really simple. At church yesterday we handed out these baby bottles. Those who choose to take them home, will over the next month (hopefully) fill them up with spare pocket change. They were distributed on Mother's Day and will be returned on Father's Day (June 19th) filled up with change as donations for the center.

The center will then collect them and use the money to help those who might be struggling with a choice of whether to keep their unborn child.

It's simple.
And hopefully will be effective.

I believe that abortion is one of those big social issues that the church should be interested in and involved in. We are told in Scripture that God created babies and knows them intimately before they are even born. And as Christians, we should care about the life of an unborn child, regardless of whether their parents do or not. This is a simple and tangible way to help unborn children.

I hope that North Terrace gets behind the effort full force in making a difference in saving the lives... even one... of unborn children. If you didn't get a chance to pick up a bottle this weekend... or wasn't sure what was going on with the bottles, you can pick one up this weekend (May 16th) and join the effort.

Tim Tebow Super Bowl ad

I'm not a huge Florida Gaters fan... but any stretch of the imagination (especially since they pounded my beloved Buckeyes a couple of years ago in the National Championship game).

I have been impressed, however, with the faith and witness of Tim Tebow, Univ of Florida's quarterback and Heisman trophy winner (2007).

So I was pleased to catch the rumor that Tim Tebow and his mom Pam are going to be featured in a Super Bowl ad on Feb 7 for pro-life. Pam was encouraged to abort Tim during pregnancy fearing that he would be born with defects. Pam and her husband were missionaries in the Philippines and instead chose to keep Tim and had a healthy baby.

This morning I caught the full story (HERE) about the upcoming ad. It's great that it won't just be a special little thing hidden somewhere among the Super Bowl hype but will instead be a full commercial running during the Super Bowl.

Here's a small snippet: "Tim and Pam share our (Focus on the Family) respect for life and our passion for helping families thrive," Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, based in Colorado Springs, Colo., said in a statement. "They live what we see every day - that the desire for family closeness is written on the hearts of every generation."

It will be great that, when in the midst of a country tainted by Roe v. Wade and on demand baby killing, an estimated 90-100 million viewers will see a pro-life message. Hopefully it won't get lost and will become a topic for watercooler conversation on Monday morning.
