Logos scholarship for seminarians

Bible study is one of the most important things that we can do as Christians. God has given us an incredible tool in giving us the Bible. It is indeed a powerful weapon and a mighty sword when placed in the hands of those who weld it with excellence.

I have grown in my appreciation of the Bible over the years. I regularly spend time reading and studying it. One of the greatest companions that I have in my study of the Bible is the Logos Bible Software. I wasn't aware of this software until I began my MDiv work at Lincoln Christian Seminary. Now, I couldn't imagine doing Bible study research without it.

LCS believes in the importance of Bible study and therefore they are pretty upfront with their desire that we seminarians use the Logos system. Which is easy for me since I have found that I really like the software.

Then I saw this fall that Logos is giving away seminary scholarships!!! (For real: Check it out HERE (http://www.seminaryscholarship.com/) I would love to land one of these $1000 scholarships (it would almost cover a class at LCS) and would love even more to get some of the resources that come along with some of the other Logos software. So I entered.

If you are going to seminary, you need Logos. And if you are going to seminary, why not apply for a scholarship(http://www.seminaryscholarship.com/)? Watch a short video, give them some information and maybe you'll be using the most powerful tool in Bible study and saving some money in your seminary bill department!

David Crowder Band - Church Music is out today!!!

So many great things happening today...

Zondervan joins Logos...
Fall officially arrives this afternoon...

And David Crowder Band's new anticipated album released on iTunes and other places.

I'm listening to it right now. And I'm liking what I'm hearing. It's a great blend of church hymns and music with the classic touch of the DCB!

If you haven't picked up a copy yet... march yourself right over to iTunes, Amazon or your favorite Christian Bookstore and pick one up for yourself. And then go follow DCB on Twitter!!!

Enjoy!

Zondervan joins Logos

This is a great day for Logos users.

I had heard last night that there was to be a major Logos announcement at 12 am (Pacific time) last night. There was no way that I was staying up for that. But this morning, I was blown away by the announcement.

Zondervan is going to publish some of it's volumes through Logos. That's great news for Logos users... and if you aren't a Logos user and you study the Bible, you should be. My shelves in my office are lined with Zondervan resources because they put out great commentaries and materials. Now, I'll be able to replace some of those physical books that are difficult to use with digital resources that I can access from anywhere with my computer.

Sweet!!!

Here's a snipet from their story HERE:
"Zondervan has some of the hottest reference material out there—in print and electronic formats. Retiring Pradis doesn't mean they are getting out of the software or e-book business, it means they are simply changing platforms. The announcement to retire Pradis comes in the same press release with the news that they will license Logos Bible Software as their new platform. In our typical book partnerships we license content from publishers to release it ourselves. In this partnership, rather than licensing their books to us, Zondervan is actually licensing technology from us."

This is an exciting day for Logos users. I'm not planning to pick up the initial 87 volume set (unless there's someone out there who wants to pick it up for me...). But I will be replacing some of my commentaries as they become available.

Way to go Logos and Zondervan!!!

I love Logos Bible Software!!!

I love Logos Bible Software. (If you have no idea what I'm talking about and like/love studying the Bible, you have got to check out this software. There is a Mac version (which is way better) and a PC version.)

I was reading today in my Google Reader (where I read all my blogs) that they are getting ready to sell a new set of commentaries from Tyndale Press (love the name!!!) called the "Cornerstone Biblical Commentaries." Back in August (yeah, 10 months ago), they were giving away a free sample of their "Matthew/Mark" volume.

From their website, it looked like they were still giving it away. So I tried to pick up the free copy, cause hey, free is good.

But when I tried to use the promo code, it didn't work.

So I called Logos, as I have an account with them. After bouncing around a couple of different places, the guy informed me that the code I had was an old code that was no longer active.

But he decided to go ahead and unlock it for me anyway!!! Just because I asked!!!!

That's stinkin' awesome!!!

If you aren't familiar with Logos, I would love to tell you all about it sometime. But I just wanted to share a little bit of awesomeness from a company that genuinely cares about it's customers!!!

Thanks "Jim" (not me... the guy who helped me) if you're reading this!

Logos finally goes Mac!!! YAY!!!

Ever since switching over to the Mac platform a year and a half ago, I have never regretted it. The only frustrating thing was that I couldn't have one program that I was beginning to get used to using on a regular basis... a program called "Logos" from Libronix.

Basically it is a library that you can install on your computer that features a searchable nature to allow you to cross-reference different aspects of Bible study. It's a pretty big deal down at Lincoln... Basically if you aren't using it or don't have it, you can't get around down at Lincoln... Which is fine. Expect they didn't have a Mac version.

Instead, they have been claiming for the last 2 years that they are "working" on a version for Mac. Every time I would check, they would say that it was coming out in the "next" quarter... then the "next quarter" would come and go and still... no Logos.

Today... I've been sick... and was doing some work at home (in between sniffles... sneezes... and cough drops) and I see an email saying the "Alpha" version is ready to go!!! I was pumped!!! I just got done downloading it and checking it out a bit.

At first glance, it looks pretty cool. The "Exegetical Guide" isn't available yet... but hopefully it will be soon. Looks like it will be cool. I would like to put it up against a regular Windows version on a computer that can actually keep up with a Mac (do those things really exist???) and see what is lacking and what isn't running just right. Since I don't use the program all that often... or at least I didn't before downloading it today... I'm not real sure how to put it through the paces to see what's there and what isn't. But I would be interested in trying that.

I wonder how long it will test before they release the full-blown version??? Hopefully not long.
