Surprising Realities
Week 4 – God’s Got Acceptance for You
High Voltage – January 28, 2007 – Jim Clark
Surprising Reality:
Everyone wants to be accepted for who they are. We are all Unique

Individuals

Extraordinary

We all have something to offer.

We tend to minimalize those things that make us different.
God’s response: Don’t!

God created you as a unique and extraordinary individual.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27

Surprising Conclusion:
Those who come to God are accepted as they are.
God accepts those who seek him.
God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. Acts 15:8
Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. Psalm 119:108

God accepts those who follow his Son.
When you sacrifice a fellowship offering to the LORD, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. Leviticus 19:5

God accepts those who try to do what is right.
Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. Acts 10:34-35
To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. Proverbs 21:3
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." Genesis 4:7

God accepts those who worship him.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe. Hebrews 12:28
For on my holy mountain, the high mountain of Israel, declares the Sovereign LORD, there in the land the entire house of Israel will serve me, and there I will accept them. There I will require your offerings and your choice gifts, along with all your holy sacrifices. Ezekiel 20:40

Action Steps:
1. Accept who God created you to be.

2. Appreciate that you don’t have to be perfect to be accepted.

3. Allow others to be themselves.

Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God. Romans 15:7
The Bottom Line:
God wants to accept you where you’re at and help you to become who he wants you to be.

Discussion Questions:
1. When is a time when you really wanted to be accepted for you, but didn't feel like you were? What kinds of feelings did you have about that?
2. How do you think it feels to be truly accepted for who you are?
3. What kinds of things can you do in really accepting others?
4. How does it feel to know that God accepts you completely, even though you've messed up?
